Once Upon A Time (Mabi)

2012

"When I meet with most of my old friends

I can’t remember the memory we had before

We don’t have in common anymore as time pass by

But I pretend that I care about all of my friends

I’m getting weak in such rotten life

I’m getting MABI in such rotten life"

IT’S EASY TO FORGET SOMEONE

- Extracted the song lyrics by an indie rock band in Taiwan

Mabi is Mandarin vocabulary. It means that someone is getting numb with or insensitive with the situation happened around him or her. I was stimulated by this word and song lyrics to create this series of image work. Through those pictures I took with artificial Photoshop effect, I try to interpret interpersonal relationship nowadays, especially friendship we are familiar with. How easily it could be disconnected, cut, broken, twisted, ignored, blurred, forgotten by changing mind with changing world, especially when individual under long term pressure encounters great difficulties or changing due to cruel reality and different variables, how it could effect individual’s perspective of something familiar with. Everything we’re familiar with in our childhood becomes blurring, fading out, unsure gradually as getting older.  This kind of reflection and observation I’ve been through reminds me and points out a series of questions about what it could be left and be remembered when we are getting older. Or even there’s something remained to the end, does it really mean important or cherished? I don’t know. Only thing I can be sure that the views are still the same, but the people no longer will be, just like the images I did.
